Beyond Purity Culture
An Evening with Stephanie Stalvey and Josh Harris
Sun, March 1, 2026 - Charlotte, NC
A live, honest conversation about the impact of purity culture and the work of reclaiming ourselves on the other side.
Purity culture was supposed to guide us toward goodness, but it left many of us afraid of our own bodies, ashamed of desire, and confused about what real intimacy looks like.
Stephanie’s graphic novel Everything in Color tells the story of growing up inside that system and finding a way out toward freedom, integration, and joy.
Stephanie and Josh each bring a distinct lens to this gathering. Stephanie shares as an artist and storyteller, using her work to illuminate how purity culture lodges itself in the body and tells the story of how she was able to reclaim sexuality and selfhood. Josh speaks from the inside, as someone who once promoted these ideas, who now understands the damage they caused, and who is grappling with what repair looks like.
What emerges is conversation without easy answers: a chance to be seen, to make sense of your own story, and to know you're not walking this road alone.

Read Everything in Color
Everything in Color is Stephanie Stalvey's beautifully painted graphic memoir about growing up evangelical, falling in love within purity culture, and discovering that faith and desire don't have to be enemies.
Through striking visuals and raw, tender storytelling, Stephanie traces her journey from a world where her body was dangerous and her thoughts couldn't be trusted, to a love that was honest, sensual, and safe—a place where her worldview could expand and everything became sacred.
This is a book about unraveling the fear and guilt of purity culture, reclaiming what was taken, and finding a love that heals. If you've ever felt caught between faith and freedom, this story is for you.
